Hayley Hohman is a sophomore pursuing a BS in Economic Sciences, the Quantitative Economics option, with minors in Mathematics and Political Science. She is also in the Honors College. She is actively involved in the WSU community as a Cougar Connector, member of the Cougar Lobby Team, and ASWSU Senator representing the College of Agricultural, Human, and
Natural Resource Sciences. As a senator, she works to pass legislation to help students, hosts events, and volunteers at various events on campus. She volunteers at the Spokane Mobius Science Center, a children’s science museum and also has a black belt in Taekwondo. Her passion is government and politics, and she is fairly involved in eastern Washington politics. She
will be headed to Rwanda next summer with a CAHNRS team to study the economics of the Rwanda coffee bean industry, which will be the base of her Honors thesis.

Jenica Hagler grew up in Kuna, Idaho on a small farm where she discovered her passion for agriculture. It was this passion that led her to her degree choice, and she is now an Honors student pursuing a BS in Agricultural and Food Systems (AFS), Ag & Food Business Economics major along with a double degree in Business Administration. She also plans to return to school for her Master of Business Administration after gaining work experience. Outside of studies, she works part time as a clerical assistant in the CAHNRS Dean’s and Academic Programs offices and as a teaching assistant in the fall. She is currently serving as an AFA National Campus Ambassador, a CAHNRS Ambassador, and a student representative on the CAHNRS Student Senate. She is optimistic about the future of agriculture and is excited to find her place within the agriculture industry upon graduation from WSU.

Honors Thesis Proposal Format - UCF College of Medicine

Brandon Nickels is from Stanwood, Washington. He is majoring in Agricultural and Food Business Economics, with an intended minor in Business Administration. Brandon has participated in a variety of clubs at WSU. During his freshman year, Brandon was involved in several student clubs including the CAHNRS Ambassadors, Young Farmers and Ranchers, and the Student Swine Cooperative. The following summer he interned with Circle Four Farms in Utah, before leaving to study abroad for the fall semester of his sophomore year in New Zealand. This year he joined the Cooperative University Dairy Students, where he serves as finance chair and the 2014-2015 club President. Summer of 2013, he participated in a CAHNRS study abroad experience in Brazil, before returning to an internship with WSU Extension. Also, he works several jobs to pay his way through school. Brandon plans on graduating May 2015 and hopes to won his own agricultural firm.

Luke Slaughterbeck, a 2016 graduate of the WSU Carson College and the WSU Honors College, is one of a handful.

Zach St. John and grew up on the Palouse, in a rural, small town of Rosalia. Growing up in a small town has molded his philosophy and as he ages it helps him understand the value of community surrounded with dedicated agriculturists. At a young age he learned the value of community, education and agriculture, and also learning how to work efficiently and effectively on teams as well as working and thinking independently. Zach said, “every day on the farm sparked my love and passion for agriculture in addition to the early 4H days through FFA my passion has grown larger, but has showed me how important education can be to a person’s future. My FFA projects/events, and work on the farm have developed my strong work ethic and has been the foothold to my college education at WSU and my future occupation in agriculture.”

The Dorothy and Bill Cohen Honors College aims to prepare students for those credits counted toward an honors award at WSU.

Cheryl Thonney is a junior pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Agricultural and Food Systems. She is majoring in Agricultural Education and minoring in Animal Sciences. Cheryl has been actively involved in with the College of Agricultural, Human, and
Natural Resource Sciences Student Ambassador Team and is currently serving as facilitator. She enjoys being involved in various clubs including the Agricultural Education Club and the College of Education Honor fraternity, Kappa Delta Pi.
Cheryl is active in her local church. She is passionate about becoming a teacher and looks forward to providing learning opportunities, inside and outside of the classroom, for the next generation of agriculturalists to experience. Cheryl has enjoyed her time at Washington State University, loves being a member of the Pullman community, and is excited for her final year campus.
