What's the topic you want to write about? - Tom March
Since this is one of the sections that the readers are looking for, highlight it by using the word "problem" or"question" in the title: e.g. "Research Question" or"Problem Statement", or maybe something more specific such as"The Large-Scale Zylon Algorithm Problem."
What's the topic you want to write about
The Agency Problem:
Also sometimes referred to as the principal-agent problem. The difficult but extremely important and recurrent organizational design problem of how organizations can structure incentives so that people ("agents") who are placed in control over resources that are not their own with a contractual obligation to use these resources in the interests of some other person or group of people actually will perform this obligation as promised -- instead of using their delegated authority over other people's resources to feather their own nests at the expense of those whose interests they are supposed to be serving (their "principals"). Enforcing such contracts will involve transaction costs (often referred to as agency costs), and these costs may sometimes be very high indeed.Paul M. Johnson. See also .

A very statement of the question is essential to proving thatyou have made an original and worthwhile contribution to knowledge. To provethe originality and value of your contribution, you must present a review of the existing literature on the subject, and on closely relatedsubjects. Then, by making reference to your literature review, you must that your question (a) has not been previouslyanswered, and (b) is worth answering. Describing how you answered the questionis usually easier to write about, since you have been intimately involved inthe details over the course of your graduate work.

The majority of dissertations done at institutions in the United States and Canada – including CIIS – and some dissertations from institutions in other countries are published through ProQuest/UMI.
The way to tell whether the work in question is published is to search their database, called ProQuest Dissertations and Theses (Members of the CIIS community can through our library Web site). If you find a record for the work in question, assume that it is published unless that record lists only an abstract (i.e., there’s no full text available and/or no link to order a copy). If you do not see it listed in this database, but know it was from a school in the United States, check with a reference librarian by sending an e-mail to askref [at] ciis [dot] edu.
If the dissertation is from an institution in another country, and not listed in ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, see if you can find it through one of the other dissertation links on the CIIS Library page.
