Only few investigations pertained hepaticexpression of IGFs and their receptors at different stages ofchronic hepatitis C in humans (). The studies demonstrated anincreased IGF-1R mRNA, but not IGF-1 protein in patients with CHCas compared to the control (). HCV replication was associatedwith the overexpression of IGF-2 in the cirrhotic livers (). Studies on HCV-related HCCsdocumented increased expression of IGF-2 in 50% of HCCs. Theincreased synthesis of IGF-2 (mRNA and protein) was associated withan increased cellular proliferation in HCCs ().
