Difference between Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Protein Synthesis ..

The process of polymerization of amino acids to form a polypeptide is called as Translation. It is the second and final step of protein synthesis. The order into which the amino acids are arranged is defined by the bases in mRNA (messenger). Ribosome is the cellular factory responsible for the protein synthesis. The ribosome consists of structural RNAs and about 80 different . It is in inactive stage and exists as two subunits, one large and other small. The synthesis of begins when the small subunit encounters an mRNA. The ribosome also acts as a catalyst for the formation of bonds.

Protein biosynthesis - Wikipedia

To understand how proteins are made, we have to divide thedecoding process into two steps. DNA only stores the geneticinformation, it isn't involved in the process by which theinformation is used. The first step in protein biosynthesistherefore has to involve transcribing the information inthe DNA structure into a useful form. In a separate step, thisinformation can be translated into a sequence of aminoacids.

The messenger RNA now binds to a ribosome, where the messageis translated into a sequence of amino acids. The amino acidsthat are incorporated into the protein being synthesized arecarried by relatively small RNA molecules known as transferRNA, or tRNA. There are atleast 60 tRNAs, which differ slightly in their structures, ineach cell. At one end of each tRNA is a specific sequence ofthree nucleotides that can bind to the messenger RNA. At theother end is a specific amino acid. Thus, each three-nucleotidesegment of the messenger RNA molecule codes for the incorporationof a particular amino acid. The relationship between thetriplets, or codons, on the mRNA and the amino acids is shown inthe table below.

All steps of protein synthesis easily explained, ..

Humans have roughly 22,000 genes.
The first step in decoding these genetic messages is to copy part of the nucleotide sequence from DNA into RNA, or ribonucleic acid.
These RNA molecules contain coded information for making proteins
like DNA,
consists of a long chain of nucleotides,
and is made up of the
same things as DNA
(a 5-carbon sugar, a phosphate group and a nitrogenous base)

for one small difference:
the sugar group in RNA is ribose.
RNA also differs from DNA
in the fact that it is
single stranded, and has the base uracil instead of thymine
(therefore, in RNA
A bonds with U
RNA is like a
disposable copy
of a
segment of DNA
In many cases, an
RNA molecule is a working copy of a single gene.
The ability to
copy a single DNA sequence into RNA
makes it possible for a
single gene to produce hundreds or even thousands of RNA molecules
There are
three main types
of RNA:
1.) messenger RNA (mRNA)
2.) ribosomal RNA (rRNA)
3.) transfer RNA (tRNA)
The job of
messenger RNA (mRNA)
is to
carry copies of instructions
for the
assembly of amino acids into proteins from DNA
to the rest of the cell
The job of
transfer RNA (tRNA)
is to
transfer, or move, amino acids to ribosomes
protein synthesis
The job of
ribosomal RNA (rRNA)
is to
make up the major part of ribosomes.
